SAI ROHC

SAI provides a highly portable, efficient and fully compliant software implementation of Robust Header Compression (ROHC) stacks. SAI ROHC is based on Internet standard that provides a generic way to compress Internet Protocol headers reliably over wireless links with high error rate and high latency. It is therefore particularly suited to cellular links such as LTE and Wimax. ROHC is a part of the 3GPP standard. The usage of IP on mobiles phones is a way to achieve a better flexibility, integration and easier management of the provided services. The major problem with IP over Cellular links when used for such interactive applications is the large IP header overhead. The bandwidth being more costly resource than the processing time in the cellular links, the need for compressing the IP Header gains more importance than the processing overhead of the compression scheme. SAI ROHC compresses header chains of 40 (IPv4/UDP/RTP) or 60 (IPv6/UDP/RTP) bytes typically down to 1 to 3 bytes.
